Through my usage of familiar animals in both customary and unfamiliar settings, I paint to show the inter species connection between humans and animals. By removing the animal from its natural environment and placing them in a more formal traditional portrait setting or juxtaposing them into a conflicting background or unusual environment, the viewer is led to examine the subtleties of posture, body language and expression that upon deeper observation, reveal the rich emotional life of animals.
